In Lays & Out Lays
When more than half of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged, an inlay or onlay may often be
advised. Inlays/onlays are pieces of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the
damaged area of the tooth.
An inlay, similar to a filling is used inside the cusp tip of the tooth; An onlay on the other hand is
a more substantial reconstruction extending out over one or more of the cusps of the tooth.
Inlays/Onlays require two appointments to complete the procedure. During first appointment
An impression of the tooth is made and sent to the lab for fabrication. Meanwhile a
temporary cement is placed in the prepared cavity. At the second appointment the inlay/onlay
is bonded to the tooth.
Inlays and Onlays can increase the strength of the tooth by 75%.
